Spokane Tribal Hatchery, Wildlife, Canoe journey Day 10

Day~10 July 18, 2017 It seemed like we don't have enough time in the morning to get everything done we need to, even when we have extra time. Before we knew it we were off on another adventure. First stop was to see their fish hatchery efforts, where they produce rainbow trout and Kokanee Salmon.  Tim Peone was very knowledgeable and passionate about his efforts to bring back the salmon and provide fish for his people. Our next stop was to the Anderson Farm. The tribe purchased this property in efforts to restore water to the McCoy Lake by returning a creek to it's nature path into the lake. They also use the property for the Wildlife program. The Wildlife program manager is  Eddy Matherly an enrolled member. He talked about how his program is part of the mitigation funding provided by the BPA. In 1992 the population of the people was growing and White Tail deer populations were declining. Day~7 Saturday July 15, 2017 We left Mission Oregon with good feelings. We didn't get to visit the museum, but over all it was a good stay. We did stop by the McNairy Dam fish viewing area and the visiting center. We seen a few eels and by golly we seen shad! I seen too many shad already this year fishing. When I visit the dams, I always pray for them to fall apart and crumble at my feet and let the water start flooding. Maybe one day the river will be restored. We were then quickly on the road again. Jessica's quote of the trip, "Look, appreciate, and move on, we need to hurry!"  We drove to Pasco to do laundry and upload our blogs.  Every stop we have to blog, we struggle with technical difficulties, and it takes a lot longer than planned. Nixya'awi tour/ Traditional Dinner Day 6

Day~6 Friday July 14, 2017 Today we did a little touring of the reservation and the ceded lands. Our first stop was an overview of the Umatilla river. Winex was our guide she talked about habitat restoration on the river. She explained how they are working toward restoring the river to keep it cold and clean. River rocks are important in filtering the water. Riperian vegitation is important for bank stability and shading over the river. The meandering of the river slows the flow so water can charge the aquafir. They have also restored flood zones to also help recharge the aquafir. It made me feel good hearing about the efforts done here. Our second stop was at one of their fish hatchery facilities where we met with Micheal McCloud. He is a Fisheries Tech 2 and is very invested in his work. He said that he can't go any further in this field without his education. He encouraged us to get educated.
